Special Guest Trip Report SuperDry's Thoughts on Tower of Terror November 20th-25th 2006 (Posted 12/13/06)

I had high expectations, and was not disappointed (except for the fact that I wasn't able to make it for the grand opening on Sept 4). I rode it twice, both at night. The first time was on a rainy day, so there was only a 10-minute standby line. The second time I rode standby as well, as I didn't to the park until 8:30am the FP line already stretched all the way to Aquatopia and the standby line was 150 minutes. I went back about 90 minutes before park closing and the line was posted as 90 minutes, and that's just what it took. So, I got to go through all of the outside queue in the gardens.
Anyway, the ride was fantastic. The "disappearing" effect during the pre-show was really amazing. The build-out of the Tower, inside and out, was definately up to TDS quality standards and just amazing to be in and around and look at. There's eye candy in every direction. And the music and area sound really adds to it. For me, that sort of thing really adds to the experience of being at TDS - I can't think of another themed environment like it anywhere that's on such a large scale and high quality.
I'm not that familiar with the drop profiles of the other ToT's, but I liked the "false ending" where they make you think it's over, but it's not. I think this really helps with the overall sense of the ride being too short. I remember thinking at the time - "wow, that was really short!" but when you get more, it seems very satisfying even though the ride is still probably very short. The only part that I didn't think was perfect was the artifical sound effects of the elevator motor during the drop sequence, as it sounded artifical to me. But that's just an observation, not a complaint or criticism.
