WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS visits site Top management from WDP (now WALT DISNEY COMPANY) visit the Maihama area for inspection. WDP Chairman Don Tatum and President Card Walker fundamentally agree to talks with OLC of developing a new theme park with a neighboring population base of 30 million. |

FORMAL AGREEMENT reached Walt Disney Productions and Oriental Land Company reach a formal agreement to develop the park. On hand were WDP President Card Walker and OLC President Masatomo Takahashi for the signing with backing from the Industrial Bank of Japan. |

GROUNDBREAKING held Groundbreaking ceremonies followed by engineering construction and planting begin. |

CAST MEMBER RECRUITING begins One year before park opening the number of Cast Members numbered about 600. A recruitment center is established for the hiring of opening staff and commencemnet of business. |
